What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a long-lasting injectable treatment that offers natural and gradual deep tissue regeneration, working with your skin to repair itself from within.

What can be treated with Sculptra?

Facial ageing is a process which happens gradually, and is the result of several small changes in the different layers of tissue in the face – skin, fat, muscle and bone.

Fat, muscle and bone all decrease in volume over time, which compromises the face’s underlying support structure and leads to a slackening of the soft tissue of the face. To compound the problem, collagen in the middle layer of the skin also gradually breaks down to make skin thinner, drier and less elastic – resulting in visible lines and grooves.

Treating all of these ‘symptoms’ of aging is the key to making a face look naturally younger. And the advantage of Sculptra is that it addresses all of the symptoms at once, in the same way they appeared – gradually, naturally and subtly.

  • Gradually: Treatment with Sculptra is no ‘quick fix’. You won’t go into work or home after a Sculptra treatment and be asked questions about what you’ve had done. Nobody will know unless you choose to tell them – or until the results begin to speak for themselves.
  • Naturally: Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, biodegradable material that has been used by doctors for more than 30 years. The acid works with the body to stimulate production of new collagen. This results in a long-lasting improvement in the skin that will last for up to 2 years – longer than traditional dermal fillers.
  • Subtly: The treatment won’t make you look dramatically different, or change your features in any way. You will look like you, but with plumper, more youthful skin.

Sculptra treatment does not require skin testing prior to use and it may be safely combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments such as Botox.

What does Sculptra treatment involve?

During your appointment, after consultation with your practitioner, your face will be cleansed and then a numbing topical anaesthetic will be applied to your face to minimise discomfort. Once this has taken effect, Sculptra will be injected into any areas that need treatment or improvement using a fine needle.

After the treatment you may notice an improvement to the area immediately. This is a result of the swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra. After a few days, this swelling will go down and you will return to the way you looked before treatment. You will notice a gradual improvement in your skin over the following weeks.

You will be advised to visit the clinic again after around 6-8 weeks to check on progress and have a follow-up treatment, and again in another 6-8 weeks.
