What is ageing?
Ageing is an inevitable process. It is not possible to stop this natural process completely, but it is possible to slow it down and help our skin to remain looking supple and fresh.
What are the causes?
There are two types of ageing: Intrinsic and Extrinsic.
This is what happens naturally as we age. As we get older, the cells that produce collagen (fibroblasts) tend to slow down, volume under the skin starts to deplete, elastic fibres in the skin start to become less elastic and skin becomes thinner and more stretched so lines and wrinkles start to develop.
These are external environmental factors that contribute towards the ageing process. These can include:
- UV damage from the sun
- Lifestyle including diet or smoking
These are referred to as free radicals. Free radical damage contributes to the breakdown of cells and can lead to lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, brown spots and thinner skin.
Intrinsic and extrinsic factors combined, result in the ageing process becoming more pronounced.
There are a wide variety of treatments available that not only treat the signs of ageing but also prevent ageing such as:
Aswell as these skin treatments, an effective skin care routine is also essential to fight the signs of ageing. Neostrata products encourage skin cells to behave younger than they actually are. These products use nano technology which means they can penetrate deep into the skin.
Why use Neostrata products over high street skin care products?
Because skin care products on the high street can be bought by the general public, in order to keep them safe these products contain very small amounts of active ingredients. So when a product claims to have anti-ageing properties, it will have such a small amount that it unlikely to have the desired effect on your skin. In contrast, Neostrata products that are purchased from an aesthetic clinic rather than a high street store are able to have a much higher level of active ingredients. This means measurable results can be seen much more rapidly.
