Top Summer Skin Tips

Summer, I’m sure that many of you may agree – is a wonderful month. The long days, light evenings and warm sun to bask in during the day is perfect. But among all your fun in the sun, your skin may not be feeling the same joy.

It may seem like most seasons can play havoc with your skin, but summer can actually be the most harmful often producing unseen, but long-lasting damage to face.

Our team of practitioners have given us their best advice on how to look after your skin during the summer months;

Mel Recchia – Clinical Lead

Staying hydrated in the heat is the easiest way to ensure healthy summer skin. Drinking water at regular intervals during the day is not only great for avoiding feeling dehydrated, but it also works wonders for your skin.

The summer heat may make your skin feel a little oilier than usual. The refine range from NeoStrata is perfect for oily skin; it contains Mandelic acid which is a lipophilic AHA which is absorbed by the oil in our skin so consider changing up your usual skincare regime during the summer.

Working in the airline industry keeping my skin in tip top condition can be a struggle especially with long haul flights. The best thing I have found to help is the award winning Skin Active Intensive Eye Therapy cream. With many of you jetting off on summer holidays this product is small enough to go in your liquids bag as hand luggage. The lightweight formula minimizes puffiness and tightens sagging skin, an absolute essential for combatting the signs of jet lag. Once you are off sunning yourself (safely of course!) I also recommend the High Potency Cream from the Repair Range by NeoStrata. It is simply perfect at normalizing elastin damage from UV exposure. It’s another one of my favourites!

Fiona Durban – Aesthetic Doctor

Looking after your skin overnight is just as important as setting it up for the day. The skin active range from NeoStrata has a great collection of products to restore your skin overnight against the harsh effects of sun damage during the day. The Cellular Restoration cream in particular has Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Polyhydroxy Acids which all work together to protect against daily environmental stresses.

Fleur Nicholls – Aesthetic Practitioner

Sun cream is without a doubt the best anti-ageing product out there, it may not physically change anything but it will definitely stop any skin damage from taking place in the first place which is the number one cause for ageing.

Picking the right type of sun cream to give you adequate protection however, can be difficult. Chemical sun creams that you can buy in local stores are effective to some extent but they can also allow a certain amount of UV rays to get through before the chemical balance for protecting your skin is produced. In the same way, SPF in make-up is also not enough to solely protect your face, especially in the summer months when UV levels are high.

The best way to protect your skin is to apply a layer of Heliocare’s SPF 50 gel every day. It provides high-level broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection and also contains Fernblock®, which is a patented natural complex of powerful anti-oxidants that can help to prevent damage to skin cells which as a result appear as signs of ageing.
