Transcript

A thread lift is using absorbable threads that we place in an area where we want to achieve lift. There’s also a secondary regenerative effect which means that the benefits of the thread are maintained for a longer period. The thread we use is the Silhouette Soft. These comprise of the thread itself which is absorbable but also cones. What the cones do is actually fix the thread into the subcutaneous tissue which means there’s no chance of migration of the thread and you get a stronger bond in the tissue.

In terms of who is appropriate for a Silhouette Soft treatment, generally it’s men and women over the age of 30 who want to combat the signs of ageing but without undergoing a more invasive surgical procedure. They want a real effect but they also want to achieve the more natural look. Indications for a thread lift are mid-face ptsosis, that’s laxity of the mid face which is what can contribute to the deep lines of the nasolabial folds or marionette lines. Also jaw line laxity, neck relaxation or if you want to achieve greater volume in the cheek area.

In terms of how long the treatment takes, we do see you for an initial consultation first where I will discuss whether the treatment is appropriate for yourself and also plan the treatment and what your expectations of the treatment are. The procedure itself only take about 30-40 minutes. During this time I mark on the face where the threads are going to be placed, we inject with local anaesthetic at the entry and exit points and I use a blunt-ended needle to insert the threads into the subcutaneous tissue under the skin. The threads are then tightened and then cut so no incisions are made and no stitches are needed.

The procedure can be uncomfortable but shouldn’t be painful because of the local anaesthetic we use. You are aware of the suture being placed under the skin but most people tolerate this procedure well. The treatment should last a minimum of 18-24 months. This can vary depending on the patient. There are side effects but they are generally short-lived lasting only a few days and they will include bruising, particularly at the entry and exit points where the threads are placed, there might be some swelling and it is possible to get either a dimple in the skin at the entry point of the thread or some puckering. All these things should settle down within a few days.

This treatment is different from other treatments due to its mode of action so how it works and the effects that can be achieved and that’s because we have the mechanical effect of actually using the thread to lift the tissue but also a secondary effect where it stimulates your own collagen production which means we get sustained benefit but also some re-volumisation as opposed to a treatment like sculptra which is purely a re-volumising treatment.

After having a thread lift you should feel quite comfortable but when the anaesthetic wears off you might want to take a regular painkiller such as paracetamol, perhaps for the first 24 hours. You should avoid excessive laughing or yawning for 2-3 weeks after the procedure and you have to avoid visits to the dentist for 3 weeks afterwards. You can’t start having any other regular aesthetic treatments such as Botox of filler for 3-4 weeks after having the threads placed.

What is the Silhouette Soft Thread Lift?

A Thread Lift is a non-surgical procedure designed to mimic the effects of a surgical facelift using re-absorbable threads. These threads give both instant and regenerative results. The immediate result is a lift to the jowl and neck area, re-defining the jawline. The Silhouette Soft Thread Lift has the added benefit of stimulating your collagen, meaning the effects only improve with time.

Before & After Photographs

What can the Silhouette Soft Thread Lift treat?

This treatment will tighten the loose skin in your mid and lower face as well as tightening your neck, minimising the appearance of your jowls.

Thread Lifting is a bespoke treatment, meaning the placement of the threads can be tailored to you, dependent on your desired outcome. Results can also be optimised by having this treatment in conjunction with other non-surgical procedures, in particular Dermal Fillers.

What does Silhouette Soft treatment involve?

You will first come to the clinic for your consultation with Dr Fiona Durban to discuss your requirements and suitability for the treatment. At this consultation, the full treatment including aftercare will be discussed.

The Thread Lift treatment begins with a local anaesthetic being injected into small points on the face in order to numb the area. The threads are then inserted into the face using a micro-needle. You will then be asked to sit up and the threads will be manipulated to ‘pull’ the face upwards. At this point you will be given a mirror allowing you to communicate with Dr Durban your desired results.

How long does the treatment take?

The initial consultation will take 30 minutes and the actual procedure will take 1 hour and 30 minutes.

How long will the results last?

The results of this treatment can last up to 24 months.

Price of Silhouette Soft Thread Lift Treatment

The first two threads are £450 each. Any additional threads after this are priced at £200 per thread. The number of threads needed will be discussed at your initial consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are our most Frequently Asked Questions on Silhouette Soft Thread Lift that we have had from previous patients. If you have a specific question that you can’t see listed please contact us and we’d be happy to answer it for you.

Who is suitable for a thread lift?

A patient is suitable if they have started to notice some laxity in lower or mid face (causing ‘jowls’ or deepening nasolabial folds) or have noticed a laxity to the skin of the neck. Their skin texture and quality should still be good. They are patients who want to notice real and yet natural results that last over a reasonable period (up to 2 years).

Are there any side effects after having a thread lift?

After a thread lift the most common side effect would be some swelling or bruising – most likely over the points of entry and exit. There may also be some discomfort after the local anaesthetic used for the procedure wears off but this can be minimised with use of simple analgesia such as paracetamol. It is also possible to get some puckering/dimpling of the skin but this resolves within a few days.

Are the results of a thread lift instant?

Yes, the mechanical lifting effect of the threads can be seen straight away. However, there is also a secondary effect of collagen stimulation which means results continue to improve over time. Best results will therefore be seen several weeks later.
