Transcript

A skin peel is a rejuvenating treatment and can be used for a number of different skin concerns; ageing, pigmentation, acne, scarring and we have a number of different peels that we personalise to suit the individual that comes in for the treatment.

There are many types of skin peels which range in acids that we use within the treatment. We vary these to ensure that we’re providing the best possible treatment for the people that come in. For example, we would do a mandelic acid peel on a rosacea sufferer. It’s actually a common myth that you can’t treat rosacea with peels, but you can. Then we might do a salicylic peel on an acne sufferer. It really varies, we do a wide range and we ensure it’s suitable for that person.

Anyone can have a skin peel. Even the most sensitive skins or the most oily sebaceous skins. It’s just about finding the right one for them. And what they can expect to see is that we are targeting the skin concerns that they have and hopefully reducing those to ensure they’ve got a nice, smooth texture and appearance.

Somebody might like to come along for a treatment, perhaps they just want a little bit of a brightening treatment, make their skin look a little bit fresher, perhaps for a special event or alternatively someone might come along with a skin condition that’s been there for years that they really are looking to target.

On the day, you would come along, we would do the consultation process briefly again, check nothing has changed in the medical history and that you’re suitable for the treatment on the day. Then we would cleanse your skin first of all, we would prep the skin removing any oil or bacteria, anything that’s going to get in the way of the treatment. Then we would apply the peel. The peel itself is a very watery solution, we just apply that all over the skin and we would let that work.

Depending on what peel it is that you have, that depends on the sensation that you’re going to feel. You can expect to feel a little bit of tingling, maybe a little bit of heat as well. It can be a little bit itchy but all of those are completely normal and we would ensure we are looking at the skin at all times to ensure it’s a good reaction. When we feel we’ve left the peel on for the correct amount of time, we then neutralise the peel so we completely stop it from working and then apply your aftercare products. Once everything’s ok you’re then good to go and continue using your maintenance homecare products at home and then depending on the time period between the peel that you’re having you would then book in for your next treatment.

You can have a skin peel as regularly as every 2 weeks however the majority of people might have one every 4 weeks. We can actually space them out even further apart though and if you’re in a maintenance stage perhaps once you’ve had a course of treatment you might then go to having a peel every 3 months of perhaps every 6 months, or maybe even once a year. Just to keep your skin ticking over.

When you leave the clinic, of course you are going to have that element of knowing you’ve had a treatment. You may have a bit of a glow about you, you might be a little bit pink but the real results may take up to a week to kick in. You can get a little bit of peeling and that may take a little bit of time to come through but then a week after and from a week onwards your skin really will be looking fantastic and at it’s best.

What is an Enerpeel chemical skin peel?

Enerpeel is a range of chemical skin peels that ‘remodel’ your skin rather than ‘peel’ it. This means you see maximum results without the excessive peeling and exfoliation. We introduced Enerpeel alongside our NeoStrata skin peels for a number of reasons:

  • This range has a wider variety of peels allowing us to target more skin concerns
  • We are able to ‘bespoke prescribe’ the skin peels to you and your specific skin type
  • You will see optimal results in the condition of your skin with minimal trauma to the surface

What can be treated?

Unlike some other skin peels we can treat all Fitzpatrick Skin Types (a skin classification system) as well as the following common skin conditions:

The Enerpeel Range

The Peel What it treats
Mandelic Acid This is an introductory peel designed for sensitive, quick-reacting skin. It can be used for the treatment of rosacea and signs of ageing
Pyruvic Acid Used to control oily skin as well as fight the signs of ageing and sun damage
Salicylic Acid Best for acne prone skin
Jessners peel (Salicylic and Lactic Acid) Used to reduce hyperpigmentation, the common signs of ageing and sun damage
TCA Peel This relatively strong peel is used to reduce hyperpigmentation, the signs of ageing and acne scarring
Eye & Lip Peel A specialist skin peel to target lines, wrinkles, dark circles and smokers lines around the eye and lip area.

This table is designed to help you understand which skin peels may be suitable for your skin prior to your consultation. During your consultation, your skin specialist will assess your skin type and condition and will decide which peel will provide you with the best results.

What happens during the treatment?

Your skin will be cleansed and prepped and the peel will then be applied, you may experience a ‘tingling’ sensation while the peel is on. Following this, the peel is neutralised and specific cosmeceutical aftercare products will be applied. Your practitioner will then advise you on the best skincare products to use following your treatment to maintain the results of your peel.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment will usually take about 30 minutes.

How long will the results last?

The effects will be ongoing as long as you use your recommended cosmeceutical products following your treatment. You will see the best results if you undertake a course of skin peels every few months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is our most Frequently Asked Questions on chemical skin peels that we have had from previous patients. If you have a specific question that you can’t see listed please contact us and we’d be happy to answer it for you.

Can skin peels treat pigmentation?

Yes, skin peels can treat pigmentation, however it is difficult to reduce the pigmentation completely. Pigmentation can occur for a number of reasons – sun damage, post-inflammation or hormones. One of the best ways to treat pigmentation is with skin peels alongside skincare products. We use beneficial ingredients in our skin peels and products, such as Glycolic acid, Lactic acid, Retinol and Vitamin C which are all clinically proven to help lighten pigmentation and brighten the skin. It is crucial that homecare products are used in conjunction with treatments like skin peels, not only to prepare the skin prior to the treatment, but also to enhance and maintain results. An added benefit of a skin peel is that they are very much anti-ageing as well.

Can skin peels treat rosacea?

Rosacea is a tricky condition to ‘treat’. It can be helped and controlled with some of our peels. The Enerpeel products and the Mandelic peel is very effective at reducing redness and helping with vascular damage. Rosacea is an ongoing skin condition and would require regular maintenance to keep it under control.

How long after a peel can I go on holiday?

You should wait at least two weeks after having a peel before you expose your skin to the sun. This is to prevent any hyperpigmentation from occurring (darkening of the skin). An SPF should also be used to protect the skin.
