Microdermabrasion – can I have it on my body?
Microdermabrasion is a safe, gentle yet effective technique for exfoliating the skin. During a microdermabrasion treatment, fine crystals are used to ‘break up’ and loosen the uppermost layers of dead skin. These dead skin cells can then be suctioned off, leaving soft, smooth skin behind.
While microdermabrasion is most popularly used to treat the skin of the face, it can also be used very effectively to improve the appearance of skin on the body.
What can Microdermabrasion treat on the body?
Unlike the skin on our face, which is constantly on display, the skin on our bodies is often hidden away. This is especially true in the British climate.
So imperfections on the body tend to be hidden away and forgotten about for most of the year. But when summer rolls around, and T-shirt weather kicks in, more of our skin is on display than usual. And as a consequence, those aspects of your skin you aren’t happy with are suddenly on show.
The skin on the body can be effected by exactly the same conditions as the skin on the face. This may include fine lines, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and scars.
The good news is that microdermabrasion can be used to improve the appearance of all of these on the body.
For pronounced wrinkles (which can occur on the décolletage area), more advanced hyperpigmentation or deeper scarring, more intense treatments may be required. That may take the form of laser resurfacing or a deep peel.
But for treating minor imperfections, microdermabrasion is an effective, non-invasive and painless way to smooth, soften and even out the skin on the body.
