How long does Botox last – and where can it be used?

Firstly, though it might sound obvious, you want to be absolutely sure Botox can be used on the area you want treating.

You may have been vigilant finding out about its safety, the possible results, the price, the down time, and have found a great practitioner.

But if it can’t be used where you want it to, it’ll have been for nowt!

So where can Botox be used?

The chances are, if you’ve done your homework, you’ll know whether Botox is a suitable treatment for you.

Unlike facial fillers, which target volume loss, Botox is used to improve issues caused by facial muscle activity.

It’s mainly used in the upper face, targeting the dynamic lines on the brow and around the eyes (those all-too-familiar forehead furrows, frown lines and crow’s feet).

But there also some specific techniques for the lower face.

Injections of Botox can be used to weaken the muscles pulling down the corners of the mouth. A sad, droopy mouth will be subtly lifted – changing the whole character of the face.

Botox can also improve jowling along the jawline, and soften the deep bands across the neck that come with age (platysmal bands).

Sounds great. And how long does Botox last?

Here’s the rub. ‘How long does Botox last?’ is a tricky question to answer with any certainty!

A lot depends on you as an individual. If you’re active, have a high metabolism or an expressive face, you’ll break down Botox more quickly.

Usually the effects last around 3-4 months for most people, but it can be longer for some – up to around 6 months.

After treatment, you’ll experience a gradual reduction in the movement of the treated muscles. This might feel a little strange at first, but it means it’s working!

Over the next few months, you’ll have muscle stillness (which will bring about the results you want).

Then gradually the muscles will start to move again, which is when you’ll need a repeat treatment to keep those lines/wrinkles/jowls/droopy mouth corners at bay!
