City slicker or country bumpkin? Find out the best skin care for you…
It’s likely that as someone who looks after their skin you will have a skin care regime that suits your type of skin and your age – in order to get the most out of products and to make sure that the condition of your skin is as good as it can be.
What you may not realise and cater for however is that the environment your skin is in is also a determining factor when it comes to your specific needs. If you are in a city, or out in more rugged countryside, you will need to look for products and regimes that suit that particular environment.
Most obviously, city-living creates the need to pay extra attention to the environment around you. Cities are notorious pollutants and so the air around you could wreak havoc on your skin, if you are not taking extra care to protect it. Noxious chemicals and fumes in the air will increase the number of free radicals in your body and also make clogged pores more likely.
Free radicals contribute to premature ageing of the skin; a healthy diet and lifestyle combined with vitamin-rich skin care will help to reduce them. Aim to eat plenty of healthy fruit and veg to work from the inside out and look out for products that contain vitamin A and E as these will help to reduce levels of toxicity from the outside.
Invest in a good cleanser and look for deep cleansing pore treatments. If your skin is clogged and irritable, the result of which will be an uneven complexion, then microdermabrasion could be a good solution. There are also creams on the market geared specifically towards polluted environments that will use a variety of ingredients to help protect your skin.
If you live in a rural area you may still have unique concerns that will benefit from a tailor-made approach to skin care. It can be that such areas may you more exposed to the elements – including abrasive winds in cold weather for example, which can dry out and exacerbate the skin. Make sure you wear a protective, thick moisturiser to counteract it.
The country can also be full of its own allergens – from nature and animals. If you feel your skin is reacting to this, particularly if you have moved from an urban environment and have noticed a change in the condition of your skin, then it may be time to switch to anti-allergen products or to those aimed at sensitive skin.
Wherever you live – don’t forget the SPF! Whether it’s sunny outside or, as is the case now, extremely chilly!
